The Lions are actually going to celebrate their last team to win a playoff game

It’s been 25-years since the Detroit Lions beat the Dallas Cowboys 38-6 in the 1991 NFC divisional round game marking the team’s one and only playoff win of the Super Bowl era. Since that time the team has gone 0-7 in the playoffs while managing an 0-16 season so in typical Lions fashion of rewarding mediocrity and pure suck, the organization has decided to honor that 91′ team this upcoming season Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports:

The festivities originally were set for the Oct. 23 game against Washington — the team that beat the Lions in the NFC championship game — but several 1991 team members had scheduling conflicts that weekend. So the celebration now will take place at the Oct. 16 game against the Los Angeles Rams.

The Lions won their only playoff game of the Super Bowl era in the 1991 season, beating the Dallas Cowboys, 38-6, in the divisional round. Many thought that the Lions were poised to become regular Super Bowl contenders after that season, but the team never paired star running back Barry Sanders with a reliable quarterback.

I guess this isn’t totally surprising considering the Lions actually put a banner up for simply making the playoffs a couple of years ago. Still, it’s insanely pathetic.
