Heading into the 2012 draft, the Lions are in an unfamiliar position sitting at 23rd spot as opposed to a single digit placement. Despite the higher position in the draft though, the Lions still have some very real needs which come in the secondary and offensive line.
I guess it’s pretty safe to assume that at some point (and more than likely early in the draft) the Lions will take either one of those two positions. With that said though could the Lions also take a running back at some point in the draft after taking Mikel Leshoure last season and Jahvid Best before that?
According to MLive’s Anwar Richardson, the Lions interviewed Boise State running back Doug Martin this week.
“They had everybody there,” Martin said. “I came in with a little butterflies. It’s kind of intimidating when you have all the guys around there looking at you and writing stuff down. I think it went really well. They are great people.”
Martin piled up 3,431 yards and 43 touchdowns in his college career but isn’t projected to be a first round draft pick. The Lions also interviewed Washington RB Chris Polk and Ohio State’s Daniel Herron.
