Despite a 6-2 record and what many consider a bright future, longtime Lions owner William Clay Ford Sr is still considered one of the worst owners in the National Football League.
In fact according to Forbes, Mr. Ford Sr is the worst.
The magazine recently ranked the top 10 best owners in the league and the bottom 10 in the league. Topping the list for the best owners in the league were Giants owners John Mara and Steve Tisch while Ford brought up the rear for the worst.
Here is what Forbes said:
“The worst NFL owner by our estimation is William Clay Ford Sr. of the Detroit Lions, who’s known for both losing seasons and losing money. Not only did the Lions post the first 0-16 season in NFL history in 2008, the value of the franchise dropped 3 percent over the last five years. Detroit was also the only team in the NFL to lose money in 2010.”In addition, Forbes added:
Lions owner William C. Ford Sr., the last surviving grandchild of Henry Ford, has watched his company’s stock decline roughly 35% this year amid a slower-than-expected auto industry recovery.
Five-Year Franchise Value: 3% decrease.
Five-Year Win Percentage: 23%.
