Wednesday night’s incident where Tigers 1B Miguel Cabrera was arrested for DUI wasn’t the first case where alcohol has caused problems for the young superstar.
As Tigers fans know, in late 2009 Miguel Cabrera was out late drinking with Chicago White Sox players the night before an important game which did have playoff implications. During this incident Cabrera reportedly caused problems at the establishment before going home and getting into an altercation with his wife. Now although no charges were filed Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski ended up having to pick Cabrera up from the station and Cabrera went through a tremendous amount of counseling programs during the off-season.
Fast forward to spring training last season Cabrera said he was done with alcohol after spending much of the off-season in counseling.
“You guys write in the paper ‘alcoholic,’ that’s not right,” he said last March before a spring training workout. “I don’t know how to explain, but it’s not an alcohol problem.”
