The Calvin Johnson, Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions are taking their talents to merry ole England, at least for one week.

The NFL announced Thursday that Detroit will head to London in 2014 for regular season match up with the Atlanta Falcons from Wembley Stadium.

“We are excited for the opportunity to play on an international stage against a quality NFC opponent,” Lions president Tom Lewand said in a statement. “It will be a different challenge for our football team; one that we fully embrace.

“The global platform also presents a unique and special opportunity for our fans and business partners to join us in sharing the many positive stories about the City of Detroit, the state of Michigan and the Lions.” (Fox Sports Detroit)

Now this certainly won’t make many fans happy considering the potential odd start time and the general disdain some have over the NFL’s efforts at trying to expand across the pond. However the good news for the Lions and their fans alike is no home game will be lost in all of this since Detroit will technically be the road team while the Falcons will serve as the home team.

The actual date and start time is still yet to be determined.
