The Jimmy Garoppolo trade market has gone from minimal to seemingly non-existent.

Sunday, the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that there’s “no clear trade partner” for the veteran QB further iterating that the 49ers aren’t going to rush into anything and “are willing to wait all the way to cut-down day.”

Back in March, it seemed the initial thought was that the Niners were going to be able to secure two second-round picks for Garoppolo, at least that’s what was reported by ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio. John Lynch eventually refuted that particular rumor which leaves us where we’re currently at now while the market has for the most part been set after the Browns received a conditional 2024 fifth-round pick from the Carolina Panthers for Baker Mayfield.

Although the 49ers find themselves in a much more palatable financial situation with regard to Garoppolo than the Browns had with Mayfield.

Unlike Mayfield who had $18.9 million dollars guaranteed on his contract, none of Garoppolo’s $24.2 million is guaranteed meaning the Niners can release the QB without suffering any heavy financial burdens as a result. Basically, if San Francisco were to go the route of cutting Jimmy G they would only absorb $1.4 million in dead money but save themselves $25.6 million.

So, at this point, the Niners would need to come across a team desperate enough to offer them anything in return for Garoppolo otherwise the rest of the NFL seems ready to also play the waiting game.
