LA

Alec Martinez is no longer a member of the Los Angeles Kings.

Wednesday, LA traded the veteran defenseman to division rival Las Vegas in exchange for a pair of second-round draft picks in 2020 and 2021.

The Kings won’t retain any salary in the deal considering Martinez is signed through next season with an AAV of $4 million dollars. Furthermore, Los Angeles gets a further leg up moneywise when it comes to this summer as they potentially look to re-sign some of their RFAs while continuing to deal with albatross deals given to Anze Kopitar, Dustin Brown, and Jeff Carter.

As far as Martinez goes, yeah it sucks to see him go but the time was now to move on from the 32-year-old who has notched 62 goals and 136 assists since being drafted in the fourth round by the Kings back in 2007.
