This past week, Arian Foster sat down with Fox News’ Tomi Lahren to discuss a variety of topics that dealt with sports and politics, something that Network has seemed to have taken a stance against given what media bigot Laura Ingraham has made mention of in the past.
One of the topics that came up was the issue of kneeling during the National Anthem that has transcended beyond the NFL and something that Foster took part in along with Colin Kaepernick.
Anyways, Foster’s back-and-forth and explanation is really a spot fucking on reason why athletes need to be more vocal about politics, especially when it’s right on their doorstep as the former NFL back eludes to.
Tomi Lahren: “What bothered me is that it’s showing disrespect to the National Anthem and the flag that means a lot to people, whether they are black, white, Christian, Jewish, or Atheist, it doesn’t matter. That flag and that anthem mean something. When your fellow soldier comes home underneath a flag and then you see someone during the National Anthem kneeling, it’s an emotional trigger.”
Arian Foster: “It’s an illogically inconsistent stance on the NFL’s part. If you wanna say ‘Don’t make political statements on the field’ then don’t have the military flyover at the beginning, or don’t have a deal with them at the Department of Justice that has millions of dollars advertised in the military. It’s illogically inconsistent. The NFL is emotionally driven, reactionary, and not proactive.”
Not that the people out there who actually need to hear Foster’s explanation are going to take it in and keep an open mind about it.
Foster is 100 percent right though. Not to mention athletes — especially professional ones with access to a massive stage — have an opportunity to be the voice of the voiceless. This is something we saw last week with Dan Le Batard who although isn’t an athlete still has a massive audience to convey an important message.
Lastly, if you’re one of those types who still has a problem with the small element of politics within sports because it’s your “escape from reality” then it’s my guess that a small injection of politics probably isn’t your main problem.
