In their Bundesliga 2 match against Darmstadt, FC St. Pauli supporters displayed a tifo that showed their solidarity with the the Kurdish people in Rojava who are in an ongoing struggle for their homes and lives against Turkish imperialism.

All this comes after the Club dismissed defender Cenk Sahin after the fullback expressed support via social media for the Turkish military intervention in Syria this past week. In response, St. Pauli supporters were very vocal in calling for Sahin’s dismissal which the Club obliged to do.

In a released statement, St. Pauli said “Sahin has been released from his training and playing duties with immediate effect. The prime factors in reaching the decisions were his repeated disregard for the club’s values and the need to protect the player.”
