According to a report by TSN.ca, AHL’s Manitoba Moose, who play at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, will relocate to St. Johns, Newfoundland for the 2011-12 season.

TSN says that an announcement outlining the relocation is scheduled for Friday which is contingent on the Atlanta Thrashers moving to Winnipeg.

The city of St. Johns has been without a team for 6 seasons after the St. Johns Maple Leafs relocated to Toronto and became the Marlies.

True North Sports and Entertainment, the group that owns the Manitoba Moose says that the team will become the AHL affiliate of the new Winnipeg NHL team if Atlanta were to in fact move to Winnipeg. They are currently the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks.

With this news it certainly seems like another step in the Atlanta Thrashers making their way north to Midwestern Canada.
