With 2012 a wash, the Lions have already seemed to start 2013 off on a bad note despite the new year still 26 days away. After placing disgruntled wide receiver Titus Young on the season-ending IR with what the team has called a “knee injury” the Lions released their 2013 calender with… you guessed it Titus Young on the cover. Apparently the Lions’ marketing department was truly stumped on who to put on the cover aside from the decision and printing happening prior to Titus Young really becoming an issue. I mean it’s not the like the Lions have the best player in the league on the team, a young quarterback with a very high ceiling or a number of other players who would’ve been much better choices because lets face it, Titus Young was an ass even before what has happened in recent weeks.

But wait the laughs continue…

If you look closely cornerback Aaron Berry who was released during the offseason due to multiple arrests graces the opening month of January… another bad omen if you believe in that sort of thing.

Meanwhile back to Young, Lions head coach Jim Schwartz addressed the media Wednesday including the team’s decision to end the wide receivers season by placing him on the IR with that “knee injury”. And when asked about the injury and whether or not surgery was scheduled Schwartz confirmed that a procedure was in the cards but not without perhaps taking a parting shot at Young.

With Raiola’s comment’s last week and now Schwartz (who rarely says anything of substance) taking this jab, it’s hard to piece together why the Lions are even keeping Young around. His stock is at an all-time low and has no chance at rising without playing not to mention a good portion of his teammates and head coach simply don’t like him. Essentially the only thing Young’s move to the IR does is limit the distraction for the rest of the season but is something that the team will have to deal with once the offseason rolls around.
