Ford Field turned into a house of horrors for the Lions on Sunday as they lost their third straight game 20-13 against the Vikings to fall to 1-3 heading into the bye week.

It seems like the same problems are facing the Lions in all of the losses, lack of consistent running game, big plays and special teams issues.  Always good to see that a team is struggling in all three parts of the game.

First with the lack of running game, having only 20 attempts is low for any team.  Even our pass-happy offense needs to try to run the ball more than that on a game-by-game basis.

Yes Mikel Leshoure did have 100 yards rushing in his first game with the team, but to follow it up with only 26 yards in the next, along with a fumble, leaves more questions than answers for the ground game.

Next with giving up big plays, the Lions were torched for 13 plays of over 20 yards in the past two games alone.  Our defense isn’t that great anyhow, but to give up chunks of yardage that big on that many occasions is a recipe for disaster.

Finally, with the special teams issues.  In the past two games now the Lions have given up four returns for touchdowns, a large number for a whole season.

After the game today, coach Jim Schwartz was asked if there was any chance of firing special teams coordinator Danny Crossman and said that it was “not a consideration.”

Something needs to change for the Lions as they have gotten off to slow starts to every game, being outscored 30-15 in the first quarter and always having to play from behind.  As a result, Matt Stafford is 10th in the NFL in passing yards while Megatron leads the league in receiving yards.

Speaking of Megatron, he was forced to take concussion tests after this hit by Chad Greenway.

Greenway should be suspended for this blatantly illegal hit on a defenseless Johnson.  The intent was there and it is the best player on a division rival you are head hunting, so don’t put your hands in the air like you don’t know what is going on.

So is this an over-reaction to a currently under-achieving team or am I right on the mark with my views?  Let us know at @DSBloggers on Twitter or on Facebook or in the comments below to tell us what you, the fans, think.
