Reports surfaced earlier in the week that former Pistons great Isaiah Thomas was on a short list of candidates to become the new Pistons head coach. However according to Marc Berman of the New York Post, Thomas is not expected to be considered for the vacant head coaching job in Detroit.

The Post also has learned Thomas is not expected to be a candidate for the Pistons’ vacant head-coaching job, despite a report out of Detroit. Two sources told The Post Thomas would not be considered by Pistons president Joe Dumars because Dumars does not want to jeopardize their friendship.

If this is true, it’s a very good move by Dumars to keep his friendship in tact with Thomas but also keep his job in tact. Thomas has had a less than stellar track record in the head coaching position and a very poor track record in the front office.

Thomas is currently the head coach at Florida International University where in two seasons has compiled an 18-44 record. In five seasons as an NBA head coach (3 with Indiana and 2 with New York) he has a record of 187-223.
