Los Angeles (14-8-0) @ Detroit (15-8-0)

The first true opponent the Wings have faced the past few weeks comes into town, and the beaten up Wings look to break a streak of injuries, but not of wins.

Despite three powerplay chances in the first, Detroit just couldn’t bury the puck. The shots were even through one, 11-11.

In the second LA looked to capitalize on their powerful PK, as they took two more penalties in the early goings of the second. Detroit looked a little lethargic, and their young energy players stepped up. At 13:23, Justin Abdelkader (2) scored to give the Wings the lead, and it seemed to give the team a much needed jolt (A: Ericsson, Kindl). At 9:11, Brendan Smith (1) fired a slap shot past Quick to give the Wings a 2-0 lead, that they would take into the intermission (A: Samuelsson, Helm).

In the third, it wouldn’t take long for the game to look over, as Danny Cleary (7) deflected a puck in from just outside the crease to make it 3-0 (A: Colaiacovo, Filppula). LA quickly (Pun intended) seemed frustrated, as they took another penalty just a few minutes later. And finally, the powerplay worked for the Wings, as Colaiacovo (2) scored just seconds after the puck was dropped (A: Datsyuk, White). Datsyuk (8) decided he would help ice the game, with 4:50 left he fired a snapshot in from the near faceoff dot (A: Filppula, Kindl). LA however denied Howard his second consecutive shutout, as Jeff Carter (12) scored with 21 seconds left (A: Richards, Doughty).
