Sad news to report this morning as longtime ESPN anchor and one of the more recognizable personalities on the network Stuart Scott has died of cancer at the age of 49.

Scott was hired by the ESPN back in 1993 and spent 21 years with the network becoming a prime figure during the SportsCenter broadcasts. He was originally diagnosed with cancer when an emergency appendectomy back in November of 2007 revealed cancerous tissue in his abdomen. Scott would continue to work for the network as his cancer entered remission in 2012 however nearly a year later on January 14th, 2013 Scott’s cancer would return.

On July 16th, 2014 Scott was honored at the ESPY’s with the Jimmy V perseverance Award where he gave a memorable and extremely inspirational speech about his fight against cancer.
