Lions DE Ziggy Ansah has been activated off the PUP list ahead of Monday’s practice according to Justin Rodgers of the Detroit News:
Ansah had been out with an unknown injury, which also limited him throughout the early portion of the offseason program. The 29-year-old edge rusher has battled durability issues the past two seasons, dealing with ankle, knee, back and shoulder issues.
For the first week of camp, Ansah was regularly seen working with the training staff on the sidelines, from running sprints to swinging a sledgehammer.
It’s good to have Ansah back on the field as that Lions defensive line is certainly much better with him than without him. The guy has been a nightmare for the opposing quarterback when healthy finishing with 12 sacks last season and almost matching Robert Porcher’s single-season sack mark (15) when he had 14.5 in 2015.
Still though, starting camp on the PUP list didn’t do anything to help Ansah’s durability concerns, especially since he’s currently playing with the franchise tag with a payout of $17.1 million.
