Zach Johnson prevailed in a 4-hole playoff to win the 144th British Open from St. Andrews.
Johnson overcame Louis Oosthuizen and Marc Leishman who all scored a 15-under on the final day of The Open Championship that capped off a thrilling weekend full of weather delays, lead changes and plenty of drama.
The win marks Johnson’s second Major after previously taking The Masters back in 2007.
Jordan Spieth missed his chance at history missing the playoff by one-stroke. The reining Masters and U.S. Open Champion tied for the lead heading into the final two holes however bogeyed on seventeen and couldn’t sink a birdie on eighteen.
Meanwhile Tiger Woods’ Open was over after Saturday’s play when the embattled golfer failed to miss an even cut. It was Woods’ second consecutive Major in which he failed to make the cut, something that hasn’t happened to him in his career up until now.
