Central Michigan Tops Bowling Green, Horizon League Teams Eliminated in First Round 🏀

Women’s college basketball games across the Midwest produced several key results Wednesday. Teams from the Mid American Conference and Horizon League played important late season matchups as conference tournament play began.

Central Michigan 77, Bowling Green 65

Central Michigan secured a strong win over Bowling Green with a 77 to 65 victory. The Chippewas built momentum in the second half and held control through the final quarter. Bowling Green struggled to close the gap once Central Michigan extended the lead to double digits.

The result strengthens Central Michigan’s standing heading into the final stretch of the MAC schedule.

Ohio 62, Eastern Michigan 54

Ohio defended home court with a 62 to 54 win over Eastern Michigan. The game turned into a defensive battle. Both teams struggled to generate consistent offense.

Ohio created separation late in the fourth quarter through free throws and defensive stops. Eastern Michigan cut the deficit during the final minutes but failed to get closer than two possessions.

Cleveland State 81, Oakland 80, OT

The closest game of the night came in Cleveland where Cleveland State defeated Oakland 81 to 80 in overtime.

Both teams exchanged leads during the final minutes of regulation. Cleveland State forced overtime with a late scoring run. In the extra period the Vikings secured the win with key defensive stops.

The loss marked the end of Oakland’s run in the Horizon League tournament. The Golden Grizzlies fell in the first round and were eliminated from postseason play.

Toledo 56, Western Michigan 49

Toledo earned a 56 to 49 win against Western Michigan in a defensive contest. The Rockets controlled rebounds and limited second chance opportunities.

Western Michigan made a push late but Toledo protected the lead during the final possessions.

Green Bay 81, Detroit Mercy 57

Green Bay defeated Detroit Mercy 81 to 57 in a Horizon League matchup. Green Bay built an early lead and maintained control throughout the game.

Detroit Mercy struggled against Green Bay’s defensive pressure and fell behind early in the first half.

The loss also ended Detroit Mercy’s season. Detroit fell in the first round of the Horizon League tournament and did not advance further in conference play.

Conference Outlook

With conference tournaments underway, results from these games carry weight for postseason positioning. Central Michigan gained momentum in the MAC race while Cleveland State moved forward in Horizon League tournament action.

Detroit Mercy and Oakland both exited the Horizon League tournament after first round losses, closing the season for both programs.
