With no leader for Matt Garza, Tigers make Jacob Turner available

According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, there appears to be no front runner as of yet in the pursuit of Cubs right handed starter Matt Garza.

However Heyman adds that with all the potential suitors such as the Yankees, Red Sox and Marlins, the Blue Jays and Tigers may end up being the front runners given they have what the Cubs are looking for which is young starting pitching.

For the Tigers, this could mean parting ways with their top pitching prospect Jacob Turner who Lynn Henning of the Detroit News writes has been made available by the team.

In a surprising offseason development, the Tigers reportedly have made their top prospect, right-handed starter Jacob Turner, available in trade talks as they now appear to seek a top-gun starting pitcher for their 2012 rotation.

Buster Olney reported Saturday for ESPN.com the Tigers have made it known to several clubs Turner is attainable in a deal for an established starter, which has included discussions about Cubs right-hander Matt Garza.

Henning goes on to say that this is a change in strategy for the club that has stated earlier in the offseason that they were more prone to adding low key starting pitching to fill in the hole at the 5th spot in the rotation.

In addition to Turner, the Tigers may be in line to also include starter Rick Porcello in any trade involving a top of the rotation arm.
