By all accounts it would seem like the Tigers are going to see what they can do in terms of bolstering their pitching rotation for the 2011 season. They will have options going into this offseason and a lot of cash to throw around at free agents. Once interesting note that I came across is the possibility that the Royals part with ace Zack Greinke and that the Tigers may be interested in dealing. This was according to Ken Davidoff of Newsday who believes that the Royals will be willing to trade if the right deal came along. Here is the official excerpt…
Zack Greinke, Royals. The Royals have him signed through 2012, at $13.5-million salaries. He’s well off his Cy Young Award pace of last year, yet still a pretty good pitcher. The Royals aren’t positive they’ll be highly competitive by 2012, so they would be open to a good offer for him, a person familiar with their thinking said. Plenty of teams’ the Yankees, Texas, Detroit , maybe even Washington’ would be interested.
It’s kind of hard to imagine that the Royals would be willing to deal their ace within the division which leads me to believe that the Tigers might be interested but it simply would not happen. However adding Greinke to the rotation would be absolutely amazing and a pipe dream at this point. If the Yankees miss out on acquiring Cliff Lee this offseason I would fully expect them to make a big run at trading for Greinke.
This season Greinke has gone 9-12 with a 3.90 ERA. He has recorded 164 strikeouts while giving up 51 walks.
