Boston Red Sox 3 vs. Baltimore Orioles 6
The Red Sox continue their September collapse as they fell to the Baltimore Orioles 6-3 Monday night from Orioles Park at Camden Yards. This time it took a broken bat single and an inside the park home run for Boston to find yet another way to lose putting their postseason hopes jeopardy.
New York Yankees 2 vs. Tampa Bay Rays 5
The Tampa Bay Rays used another James Shields gem to beat the New York Yankees 5-2 Monday night from Tropicana Field. The Rays win combined with the Red Sox loss to Baltimore now puts the Rays and Sox in a tie for the AL Wild Card with only two games to go. On September 3rd the Red Sox led the Rays by nine games however since the beginning of the month the Red Sox have lost 17 of their past 22 to get the Rays back in the race.
Texas Rangers 4 vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 3
The Texas Rangers officially eliminated the Angels from postseason contention 4-3 Monday night from Anaheim. Adrian Beltre hit a two-run homer while Michael Young added an eighth-inning RBI single to help the Rangers do away with their division rivals.
NL Wild Card Race
The Atlanta Braves certainly haven’t been helping themselves down the stretch as they lost again, this time to the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 from Turner Field. Fortunately enough for the Braves the Houston Astros were able to defeat the St. Louis Cardinals 5-4 in 10 innings from Houston. St. Louis just missed a chance to tie the NL Wild Card with the Braves as they took on one of the worst teams in baseball Monday night.
