Wichita State enters NCAA Tournament 34-0

For the first time since 1991 the NCAA will include a undefeated team amongst the ranks.

Sunday Wichita State beat Indiana State 83-69 in the Missouri Valley Conference title game moving the Shockers’ record to an astounding 34-0. Although Wichita State didn’t need to the win to get into the NCAA Tournament they’ll be the first with no loses throughout the course the season to make the Big Dance since UNLV accomplished the same feet back in 1991.

But if you think they’re a shoe-in for the National Title you may be surprised. The last time an undefeated team won the NCAA Tournament Championship was all the way back in 1975-76 when the Indiana Hoosiers did just that. In fact though no team has ever gone undefeated and won the title since the Tournament field expanded itself to 64 teams (now 68) in 1985.

Still though going 34-0 throughout the course of a long season is pretty remarkable and should make the Shockers a bracket favorite come Tourney time.
