Phil Humber of the Chicago White Sox threw the 21st perfect-game in MLB history Saturday afternoon against the Seattle Mariners.
Humber finished the game throwing 97 pitches (68 strikes) and retired all 27 of Seattle’s hitters. He also finished with nine strikeouts. Mariners infielder Brendan Ryan was the final out for Humber when he got him with a ball in the dirt that Ryan ended up swinging at. A.J. Pierzynski ended up throwing down to first base to preserve the strikeout and perfect game.
Today’s performance by Humber marks the the first no-hitter/perfect game of the season and the first since 2010 when Dallas Braden of the Athletics and Roy Halladay threw perfect games just 20 days apart.
The seven year veteran, Humber has pitched for the Mets, Twins, Royals and now the White Sox.
