What the Lions plan to do at left tackle

Free-agent offensive lineman Eric Winston was scheduled to visit St. Louis this weekend however that visit was cancelled Friday after the Rams signed center Scott Wells to a contract. Now according to Fox Sports’ Alex Marvez, Winston will now visit the Lions on Monday if the Kansas City Chiefs don’t sign him to a contract on Saturday.

Released by the Houston Texans last Monday, Winston may the solution for the Lions on the offensive line if they don’t bring back long-time starter Jeff Backus who is also an unrestricted free agent.

If Backus departs and the Lions bring in Winston it remains unclear if the Lions will move Winston from right tackle to left tackle or ask Gosder Cherilus to make the same switch.

The Lions also hosted Marcus McNeill on Friday so it looks as though they have plenty of options in place if they don’t bring back Backus, which is looking more and more likely the further we get into free agency.
