The Lions front office decided they’ve had enough of their players running amok this offseason.
Monday, the team announced that CB Aaron Berry will be released following his second arrest this past weekend this time for brandishing a hand gun at three individuals.
“We have repeatedly stressed to everyone in our organization that there will be appropriate consequences when an expected standard of behavior is not upheld,” Lions President Tom Lewand said.
Berry was previously arrested on June 23rd for DUI charges and agreed to enter a diversionary program for first-time offenders last week.
With the loss of Berry (who was slated to be the starting CB opposite of Chris Houston), the team will more than likely turn to rookies such as Bill Bentley Chris Greenwood and Jonte Green to compete against Alphonso Smith and Jacob Lacey for the starting role.
Now given Berry’s latest arrest you wonder if Detroit had no other choice but to cut him from the team. The Lions have had a total of seven arrests this offseason which leads the rest of the NFL.
Nick Fairley was arrested twice and the same goes for running back Mikel Leshoure. In addition Doug Culbreath was also arrested while defensive tackle Corey Williams was just discovered to have been arrested back in 2011 during the labor lockout.
