If you didn’t think Alex Rodgriguez’s public image could get any worse…
Biogenesis founder and one of the key figures in Major League Baseball’s latest PED scandal Tony Bosch appeared on 60 minutes to let the public in on what may be in store for Alex Rodriguez in Federal Court and further bury the embattled third baseman’s public image.
During the interview, Bosch outlined some very specific claims of PED use by Yankees infielder including bribes for Bosch to keep his mouth shut and possible death threats from the Rodriguez camp.
Here’s some key points to the interview that not only A-Rod wished never got out but Major League Baseball as well:
- A-Rod’s associates wanted Bosch to sign an affidavit saying he never provided the Yankee’s third baseman with PEDs
- Bosch was offered to be paid $25,000 a month to lay low in Columbia, South America presumably during the MLB investigation.
- Bosch received a death threat in the form of a text message to his ex-girlfriend saying “he would not live to see the end of the year.”
- Rodriguez apparently gave Bosch a blood sample in a Miami nightclub bathroom.
- Bosch went on to say during the interview that he provided Rodriguez with a number of PEDs including testosterone called gummies which reportedly gave A-Rod a boost during games.
- Text messages revealed A-Rod asking Bosch how long before games he should take the gummies so they would be out of his system during the post-game drug testing.
- Bosch was paid $12,000 per month to set up a program for Rodriguez and advise the third baseman on which part of his urine stream to use during drug tests.
- Bosch said he was sought out by Rodriguez after Manny Ramirez’s 2008 season.
- Major League Baseball allegedly paid $125,000 for the Biogenesis documents then arranged for Bosch to corroborate them.
Despite this seemingly damning interview for A-Rod’s defense, there’s still plenty of speculation surrounding Bosch’s credibility considering he doesn’t have a license to practice medicine. And the 60 Minutes interview didn’t really do a whole lot to give Bosch any more credibility which may be a small saving grace for A-Rod. However the interview also didn’t do anything to further discredit Bosch.
The bottom line in all of this is given the reliance of Major League Baseball and A-Rod on Tony Bosch, nobody’s really going to come out looking good in the end.
