In one of the more bizarre things you’d ever see an NBA ref do, Courtney Kirkland actually tried to block a Kris Humphries free throw Wednesday night as the Brooklyn Nets took on the Toronto Raptors from the Air Canada Center.
Midway through the fourth quarter as Humphries head to the line, the Nets were apparently trying to sub in some players but instead of blowing the whistle or simply let Humphries shoot the ball and not count the basket Kirkland decided he’d show his defensive game and try to block the attempt.
Why? Maybe Kirkland was trying to make an impression on the Raptors front office who currently have put together the worst defensive team in the league. Or perhaps he was hoping Mike D’Antoni was watching since the Lakers are also godawful on defense and had the night off.
Nonetheless it was still pretty hilarious.
