Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda seemingly got away with having pine tar on his hand a couple of weeks ago against the Red Sox trying to pass it off as dirt however this time at Fenway it was a different story. During the second inning of tonight’s game, Red Sox manager John Farrell prompted home plate umpire Gerry Davis to check Pineda for any type of foreign substance. Instead of having it on his hand though, Pineda opted for a big inconspicuous smudge on his neck.

It may be worth mentioning that back on April 10th when Pineda was last accused of using the pine tar, Clay Buchholz  was on the hill for the Red Sox who was also suspected of doctoring the ball in the past. Perhaps because of this Farrell was less inclined to say anything then.

Then again Pineda could also be seen with some type of foreign substance on his hand during his first start of the season against the Blue Jays. The media however didn’t pick up on this only Majors contributor Ryan DePaul…
