In the midst of the Maple Leafs falling below .500 with a 4-1 loss to the Red Wings what was thought to be a disgruntled Toronto fan proceeded to throw a Leafs jersey on the ice during the third period.
Stephen Whyno of the Canadian Press later tweeted that Toronto captain Dion Phaneuf wasn’t pleased with the fan’s actions:
Phaneuf: fans have other ways to voice displeasure than throwing jerseys on the ice. "I don't agree with it," #Leafs captain says.

But despite the intrigue of a Maple Leafs fan possibly disrespecting his team by throwing their jersey on the ice, Damien Cox of Sportsnet says it was actually a Canadiens fan that actually pulled off the stunt.
So word is it was a Habs fan who threw the Leaf jersey on the ice. Sorta drains all the supposed symbolism from the event.

Guy planned it all day. Knew it would get this reaction.

Planned all day? Seems like a lot of planning for a relatively small scale stunt.
