The Wings fell behind early once again but were able to make the most of a comeback tonight in Chicago.
Dan Cleary was able to erase a two-goal deficit and Pavel Datsyuk was able to get the game clincher in overtime as the Detroit Red Wings beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2 Sunday night from the United Center.
In a rare start for Detroit backup Ty Conklin, he didn’t exactly get off to the start he or the Wings were hoping as Dave Bolland netted a power play goal while Patrick Sharp followed up only 44 seconds later.
Before the first period came to a conclusion, Valtteri Filppula was able to beat Chicago goaltender Corey Crawford to get the Wings within one.
In the second period the Wings were unable to garner much offense in large part to killing off two penalties. Conklin stood strong though making 11 saves and keeping the Wings in the game.
Conklin remained strong in the third period as he was able to deny Jimmy Hayes on a penalty shot after Wings forward Tomas Holmstrom appeared to cover up the puck in the Detroit crease.
Later in the third period Dan Cleary was able to get the tying goal sending the game to overtime.
