VIDEO: Al Alburquerque hit by a ball during batting practice

A scary incident occurred today during Orioles batting practice when Tigers’ reliever Al Alburquerque was struck by a line drive off the bat of Baltimore second baseman Robert Andino. Alburquerque was in the outfield playing catch when he was struck.

“I hit it and I saw where it was going and he wasn’t looking,” Andino said. “I tried to yell, but it was too late.”

Andino told the Baltimore Sun he was too shaken up to continue taking batting practice after seeing Alburquerque get hit.

According to Chris Iott of Mlive.com, Alburquerque immediately went down to the ground in noticeable pain. After being attended to by the training staff he stood up and got onto a cart where he was taken off the field and to the University of Maryland Medical Center. He reportedly got a CT scan was diagnosed with a concussion and will be held overnight for observation.

Since Alburquerque has a concussion he must go on a mandatory 7 day disabled list. To take his spot on the roster the Tigers recalled reliever Ryan Perry from Triple-A Toledo.
