It may not have been the way they wanted to do it but nonetheless the United States is on to the Round of 16 after a 1-0 loss to Germany.

The only goal of the match came from Thomas Müller who put the Germans ahead in the 55th minute, eventually securing their first place finish in Group G. On top of that too things got a little dicey for the United States and their chances of advancing after Ghana was able to tie up Portugal at one a piece in the second half. However Christiano Ronaldo was able to put Portugal back on top eventually helping push the USMNT onto the next round.

Basically if the US lost to the Germany and Ghana ended up beating Portugal lets say 2-1, Ghana advances. So thank you Ronaldo for ensuring that didn’t happen. There should also be no shame in this loss for the United States considering Germany’s probably the best team left in the Tournament.

Now the United States looks ahead as they’ll face the winner of Group H (Belgium or Algeria, probably Belgium) on Tuesday. The advancement also means the USMNT survives the so called “Group of Death”.
