USC expeted to hire Washington’s Steve Sarkisian

NCAA Football: Washington State at Washington

UPDATE: Interim head coach Ed Orgeron will reportedly resign from USC following the Steve Sarkisian hire.

According to CBS Sports’ Bruce Feldman, USC is expected to hire Washington Huskies coach Steve Sarkisian as the team’s new head football coach.

Sarkisian, was reportedly a leading candidate for the job along with Boise State’s Chris Peterson who recently took his name out of consideration. Monday, Feldman also confirmed that USC interviewed Sarkisian for the job.

The move for the Trojans isn’t anything out of the ordinary as they have a history of hiring guys with ties to the program. Sarkisian spent six seasons as an assistant with the Trojans (from 2001 to 2003 and then 2005 to 2008). During this time he also served as the team’s quarterbacks coach, offensive coordinator and even assistant head coach under Pete Carroll.

In his five season with the Huskies the 39-year old Sarkisian went 34-29 while heading to their fourth bowl game in his regime.
