UMBC

If you had UMBC in your Final Four, you’re still looking pretty good heading into the weekend. Meanwhile, if you had the No. 1 overall seed in Virginia going all the way, let alone making it out of the first round then you’ve got some problems.

For the first time in NCAA Tournament history, a 16-seed took down a one-seed as UMBC stunned not only heavily favorited Virginia team but the top overall team in the entire Tournament. And the Retrievers – yeah UMBC are called the retrievers – did it rather convincingly by a 20-point score of 74-54.

Move over Middle Tennessee State because this is now the biggest upset in college basketball postseason history and is arguably the biggest upset in sports ever. Especially considering UMBC lost to Albany earlier in the year 83-39. This is also only Virginia’s second 20-point loss in the past four years.
