It’s not very often that a four-star recruit falls into the lap of Eastern Michigan, in fact given the state of the Eagles’ football program the past 16 years not much good fortune has come their way.

That is until this season.

Four-star cornerback Marlon Pollard who was looking to leave the UCLA program after the 2009 season gave Eastern head coach Ron English a call asking if there was room for him on the Eagle roster.

There without a doubt was…

“I actually contacted them. I knew when I was going to leave (UCLA) that I wanted to go to a school with great coaches,” Pollard said. “(Defensive coordinator Phil) Snow and Coach E, those were the names that popped into my head because of their reputation with DBs.”

Now Pollard comes to a team that was ranked 119th in pass efficiency in division one FBS play and 113th in total defense. After being buried on the Bruins’ roster in Los Angeles, Pollard looks to make an impact and the most of his new opportunity in Ypsilanti…

“I just want to help where I can, whatever the team needs,” he says.

According to Rich Rezler of AnnArbor.com, English won’t project what Pollard will produce on game-days, he just hopes he comes out with that same intensity and consistency he’s (Pollard) shown in practice since August of 2010.

“He’s got some length, he’s smart, he can cover you and make plays,” English said. “I think as he continues to be coached by Phil Snow and continues to work at it, I think he’ll be a guy who can play the position and be complete.”
