U.S. moves onto Men’s semifinals with 5-2 win over the Czech Republic

The United States moved on in their quest for Olympic gold today when they defeated the Czech Republic 5-2 in the men’s quarterfinals from Sochi.

David Backes, Phil Kessel, Dustin Brown, Zach Parise and James Van Riemsdyk were the goal scorers for the United States and it was that Backes goal made you take a second look as he got a pretty extraordinary ricochet off a bad angle to initially put the Americans up.

The United States also out shot the Czech Republic 25-23 while Jonathan Quick got the win in net.

Team USA will now move on to play rival Canada in the semi’s after their 2-1 win over Latvia.
