In what could be a major development in the Tigers acquiring Rockies starter Ubaldo Jimenez, Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com tweeted that the Tigers are prepared to include their top pitching prospect Jacob Turner in the deal.
Turner is not only a premium arm within the Tigers’ organization but he is a premium arm among all major league prospects as Keith Law of ESPN ranks him in at #13 on his top 50 MLB prospects list.
Law wrote that the right-hander “has an electric arm and shows above-average control as a 20-year-old in the Double-A Eastern League,’ and added that even at 20 he could help a big-league club right now.
Even though Jimenez is the ace of Colorado’s staff I still hesitate including a top arm in a trade for him. I can understand the asking price however I would approach Jimenez with great caution given the fact that he has been very mediocre aside from his great first half in 2010.
UPDATE: Jon Heyman of SI.com tweeted that the Rockies would like the Tigers to throw in either Max Scherzer or Rick Porcello along with Jacob Turner in a deal for Ubaldo Jimenez.
I didn’t like the trade before, now I really don’t like the trade. It wouldn’t make any sense for the Tigers to include another starter in this deal that’s already in their rotation since they would be acquiring Jimenez to take a spot in the rotation.
