Tuesday Night in the BNHL, Red Wings play in Buffalo…

Welcome to another big night in the BNHL, a lot of games going on tonight, and we got to see plenty of good action. Plenty of rivalries played tonight, plenty of inter-conference action too. Lets jump right in.

Detroit went in to Buffalo, eager to get a goal on the board and end their 60 minute shutout. With 13 minutes in the books, the fourth line came through and new Red Wing Jordan Tootoo (1) scored on Ryan Miller, perhaps quieting some of the doubts as to Hollands summer signing. It wouldn’t last however, as Luke Adam (1) scored on Jimmy Howard with just over two minutes left in the period.

Buffalo continued pouring it on, as the Buffalo Captain added to the population of Pominville twice (1, 2) before the halfway point of the period. Danny Cleary (1) chopped into the 3-1 lead with 6 minutes left, beating Ryan Miller with an odd angle shot with six minutes left.

The final frame provided little relief to the Red Wings, as Tyler Myers (1) scored under a minute into the 3rd period with a powerplay goal. Howard was then pulled by Babcock, and the team responded. Filppula (1) popped in a goal on the power play with 7 minutes left, and Franzen (1) scored to make the score even a minute later. However it wouldn’t last, as Gustavsson let in a deflection by Jason Pominville (3) to give him the hat-trick with one minute, twelve seconds left to play. Villie Leino (1) iced it with an empty netter twenty seconds later. Tough loss for the Red Wings, but they did get some scoring. Now the question is whether Howard can shake off the rust from the summer and stop some pucks, and if the defense can help him in that regard.

DET 4 – 6 BUF

Notes: BUF D Christian Ehrhoff was injured during the game and is considered Day-to-day.

It truly is the Bizarro NHL, as Columbus walks into Minnesota and beats the crap out of the Wild, winning CLM 4-1 MIN.

Notes:  All of Columbus goals have come from different players this year (7), Parise has first point as a Wild, an assist, Suter still pointless.

Nashville stays perfect, as they welcome Colorado into Tennessee and beat them NSH 4-1 COL.

Notes: David Legwand has huge game with Sergei Kostitsyn, 2 goals, 2 assists each. Pekka Rinne saved 42 shots.

Dallas fails to stay perfect on the year, but earns a point in a shootout loss to the Coyotes. PHX 2-1 DAL.

Notes: Jagr scores his first goal for the Stars.

The Kings continue to struggle, as they fall 4-1 to Edmonton. Shockingly, Quick was burned in just two periods of play, and Bernier was perfect through one. EDM 4 – 1 LAK.

Notes: Stanley Cup MVP Jonathan Quick has a 85.75 SV % through two starts.

Tampa continues the trend of beating a dead horse, as the Lightning push the Islanders to 0-3. TBL 3-1 NYI.

Notes: Stamkos scores all three goals.

Chicago gets a win against Winnipeg, CHI 3-1 WIN.

Notes: Chicago gets all three goals unassisted.

Montreal takes Boston all the way, loses in a shutout however. Boston moves to 3-0. BOS 3 – 2 MON.

Notes: Through three games, Montreal only has one goal, from their third line center David Desharnais.

Pittsburgh and Ottawa go the distance, Pittsburgh wins in a shootout, PIT 3-2 OTT.
