Notre Dame‘s Torii Hunter Jr. nearly had his head taken off tonight on a play that perhaps should have resulted in the ejection of Texas defensive back DeShon Elliott.
Upon making the initial effort on the attempted catch, Elliott clearly led with his head on a play Hunter Jr. arguably had zero time to establish himself after the catch and defend himself against the oncoming hit.
Not only that, the NCAA changed it’s rule book this season to allow the booth officials to make a targeting call despite what was originally determined on the field. Not to mention they had plenty of time to do so given the amount of time Hunter Jr. laid on the the ground probably trying to figure out where the hell he was.
Bottom line, you’d think this is the kinda shit football – whether it be the NCAA or NFL – is trying to rid itself of. In which case the officials are almost as culpable as the players for those missed calls, especially those that result in injury.
