The Detroit Tigers and world-famous Toledo Mud Hens announced Tuesday that they’ve extended their affiliation through the 2016 season.
According to James Schmehl of Mlive.com, this is the third time the two teams have come to an agreement on affiliation.
“(Tigers) general manager Dave Dombrowski, assistant general manager Al Avila, director of minor-league operations Dan Lunetta and the rest of the staff have done a tremendous job of rebuilding the entire farm system since they came on board at the start of the 2002 season,” Mud Hens general manager Joe Napoli said in a statement. “That season was also the first for the Mud Hens at Fifth Third Field and both organizations have seen great success on and off the field over the last decade. We couldn’t be happier with the partnership.”
The Tigers and Mud Hens have been affiliated since 1987 which makes it the fifth longest relationship between an MLB and Triple A team. The two franchises also worked together from 1949-52 and from 1967-75.
