The Detroit Tigers aren’t done yet. Facing elimination, Detroit erupted for nine unanswered runs to beat the Seattle Mariners 9–3 in Game 4 of the American League Division Series on Tuesday night at Comerica Park, forcing a decisive Game 5 in Seattle.

For the first four innings, it looked like the Mariners were on their way to closing out the series. Dominic Canzone drove in Josh Naylor in the second inning, and Cal Raleigh’s RBI single in the fifth pushed Seattle’s lead to 3–0. But from there, the Tigers flipped the script.

In the bottom of the fifth, Dillon Dingler put Detroit on the board with an RBI single to score Zach McKinstry. Jahmai Jones followed with a double to bring the Tigers within one, and Javier Báez’s single tied the game at three. The comeback lit up Comerica Park — and the Tigers never looked back.

Riley Greene’s solo home run in the sixth gave Detroit its first lead of the night, and the offense kept pouring it on. McKinstry added an RBI single later in the inning, while Báez and Gleyber Torres tacked on more damage with extra-base hits. Torres launched a solo homer in the seventh, and a Báez force out in the eighth brought home the final run to cap off the Tigers’ biggest postseason scoring performance since 1968.

Casey Mize gave Detroit a short but steady start, allowing one run before turning things over to the bullpen. Troy Melton earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief, keeping the Mariners off the board while the Tigers’ offense took over.

For Seattle, the bullpen couldn’t hold the lead after a solid start from Logan Gilbert, and the Mariners’ bats went quiet down the stretch.

The best-of-five series is now tied 2–2 and will return to T-Mobile Park for a winner-take-all Game 5.
