James Schmehl of Mlive.com writes that the Tigers have sent pitcher
Last week, Galarraga signed a one year, $2.3 million dollar contract with the Tigers avoiding arbitration. However, literally hours later the Tigers ended up waiving Galarraga in favor of newly signed Brad Penny.
Galarraga is most known for having a perfect game taken away from him last June when first base umpire Jim Joyce blew a ground ball out call. Galarraga went 4-9 last year with a 4.49 ERA in 24 starts, but won only two starts following that near perfect game on June 2nd.
Galarraga is expected to immediately be plugged into the Diamondbacks’ starting rotation that includes Ian Kennedy, Daniel Hudson and left-handers Joe Saunders and Zach Duke.
In the meantime Kevin Eichhorn is a 20 year old right hander who was Arizona’s third-round pick (104th) in 2008. According to Schmehl, Eichhorn the son of former major league pitcher Mark Eichhorn was limited by injuries and only pitched a combined 18.2 innings in his first two professional seasons.
Schmehl also writes that Eichhorn tossed 86.1 innings last season, posting a 5.00 ERA in 15 starts between High-A Visalia, rookie-level Missoula, and short-season Yakima, posting a combined 4.5 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
Robowski, 22 went 2-4 last season in 54 innings pitched with High-A Visalia. He had a 5.17 ERA with a 1.574 WHIP.
