Tigers hoping thumb surgery for Boesch can wait until the end of the season

Tigers head trainer Kevin Rand said Monday that at some point Tigers OF Brennan Boesch will need surgery to repair a partially torn thumb ligament.

The Tigers however are hoping that he surgery can be pushed aside until the season is over.

“It’s going to be an issue the rest of the way,” Rand told Tom Gage of the Detroit News. “We just have to find a way, if we can, to get it comfortable enough for him to swing a bat.”

Boesch originally suffered the injury on August 10 and has played seven games since then, hitting .250 with zero homers and a .599 OPS.

As of now Boesch remains day-to-day with the injury giving Magglio Ordonez another shot in right field after the acquisition of Delmon Young.

You have to assume that any surgery for Boesch will result in a lengthy trip to the DL that will surely end his season at this point in the year.
