Tigers head trainer Kevin Rand said Monday that at some point Tigers OF Brennan Boesch will need surgery to repair a partially torn thumb ligament.

The Tigers however are hoping that he surgery can be pushed aside until the season is over.

โ€œItโ€™s going to be an issue the rest of the way,โ€ Rand told Tom Gage of the Detroit News. โ€œWe just have to find a way, if we can, to get it comfortable enough for him to swing a bat.โ€

Boesch originally suffered the injury on August 10 and has played seven games since then, hitting .250 with zero homers and a .599 OPS.

As of now Boesch remains day-to-day with the injury giving Magglio Ordonez another shot in right field after the acquisition of Delmon Young.

You have to assume that any surgery for Boesch will result in a lengthy trip to the DL that will surely end his season at this point in the year.
