Sunday night the Tigers left the White Sox’s thinking their playoff hopes are all but gone and ESPN wishing they picked up another Sunday night game as Detroit embarrasses Chicago 18-2 completing the three game sweep.
Several Tigers had multiple hit games including Miguel Cabrera who hit a monster two-run home run that went to deep center field. Andy Dirks also added a two-run home run late in the game. Alex Avila had four hits and two RBIs while Victor Martinez had three hits and two RBIs with Jhonny Peralta adding two hits and three RBIs.
In the end, nine Tigers had two or more hits.
Tigers starter Max Scherzer, whose been up and down at time this season certainly didn’t need the help tonight. Scherzer ended up going seven innings giving up five hits and zero runs while striking out six and walking none. He threw a total of 113 pitches on his way to his 14th victory of the season.
With tonight’s win, the Tigers go up 8.5 games on the White Sox and 6.5 games on the Indians who beat the Kansas City Royals 9-6 on Sunday. Detroit begins a three game series with those same Indians on Monday from Progressive Field in Cleveland.
