Today the Tigers claimed LHP Josh Smoker off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates immediately optioning him to Toledo. To make room for Smoker, the Tigers DFA’s RHP Warwick Saupold whose been with the organization since 2012.
The Tigers today announced that they have claimed LHP Josh Smoker off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates and optioned him to Triple A Toledo. To create room for Smoker on the 40-man roster, the Tigers have designated RHP Warwick Saupold for assignment.

For Smoker, the Tigers are his third team this calendar year.
On January 31st, Smoker was traded from the Mets to the Pirates before ultimately getting DFA’d by the Pirates on July 23rd.
Since 2016, Smoker has accumulated a 5.47 ERA over 77.1 innings pitched with a 1.707 WHIP and 5.13 FIP.
