TIGERS ALCS: Tigers fall 7-3 in Game 4, season now on the line

The Tigers fell to the Texas Rangers 7-3 in Game 4 of the ALCS Wednesday night from Comerica Park.

Tigers starter Rick Porcello ended up going 6.2 innings allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits while walking zero and striking out 6. He received a no decision.

Texas starter Matt Harrison went 5 innings giving up 2 runs on 3 hits while walking 3 and striking out 3. He was also tagged with the no decision.

Nelson Cruz had a 3 run home run in the fourth while the Rangers used a 4 run 11th inning off Tigers closer Jose Valverde to get the win. Texas now has a 3-1 ALCS lead and are only one win away from returning to the World Series.

The Tigers got RBIs off the bats of Miguel Caberera (2) and Brandon Inge who hit a solo shot in the 7th inning to tie the game at three.

However Tigers manager Jim Leyland admitted that his team, notably Jose Valverde and Joaquin Benoit are running on fumes and heart. The same can be said for guys like Victor Martinez, Alex Avila and Delmon Young who are all playing through injuries. This doesn’t include guys like Magglio Ordonez and Brennan Boesch who are shelved for the ALCS and in Ordonez’s case the remainder of the postseason with a fractured ankle.

Leyland is absolutely right. There is no giving up in this team and you have to figure they’re going to do everything they can to get the series to a game seven.

Tigers fans have to stay positive as well given that Justin Verlander, the best pitcher in Major League Baseball this season once again goes out and tries to be the stopper for the Tigers. This time around though the season is on the line.
