The Tigers finally got some pitching help as they have struck a deal with the Seattle Mariners Saturday morning for starting pitcher Doug Fister and right-handed reliever David Pauley. Going to Seattle will be LHP Charlie Furbush, outfielder Casper Wells and Double-A third baseman Francisco Martinez who is considered a top prospect within the organization.
Now despite a 3-12 record, Doug Fister has a 3.33 ERA and a very impressive 1.17 WHIP in 21 starts this season. He has often times been the victim of a brutal Seattle offense that provided absolutely no run support. Fister will also be arbitration eligible for the first time this coming off-season.
David Pauley also has some pretty decent numbers himself. He is 5-4 with a 2.15 ERA and .99 WHIP over 39 games.
The Tigers definitely gave up a lot to acquire these guys but this trade is a testament to the team going for it all this season.
