On Monday Michigan filled it’s biggest remaining need for their 2012 class with the verbal commitment of four-star defensive tackle Ondre Pipkins.
The 6-foot-3, 325-pound Pipkins is rated the country’s 12th best defensive tackle by Scout and the 19th best by Rivals. He currently plays at Park Hills High School in Kansas City however is originally is from Saginaw and later played in Rochester Hills.
What may even be more gratifying for Michigan and it’s fans is they were able to get Pipkins over other big schools like Alabama, Florida, Missouri, Iowa, Ohio State and Michigan State.
Michigan however may not be done recruiting at the defensive tackle position. Flint native and four-star recruit Danny O’Brien lists the Wolverines as a top six school for himself.
It is expected that the Wolverines will continue to address their needs at wide receiver and running back before they are finished recruiting for 2012. Currently they have more defensive players (14) and four-star players (12) than any other program in the country.
Scout tabbed Michigan No. 1 in its recruiting rankings released today. CBS and maxpreps.com also rank the Wolverines No. 1, Rivals ranks them No. 4 and ESPN No. 5.
Pipkins is now the 22nd recruit for Michigan’s 2012 class. Head coach Brady Hoke said he expects to sign about 25 to 26 recruits for 2012.
