Chris Osgood said he always likes playing in front of his hometown in Edmonton and it seemed to be working for him tonight as the Wings get by the Edmonton Oilers 5-3 at the Rexall Place. The also marks the 4th straight road victory for the team who previously dropped their last two at home, one if overtime to the Islanders on New Years Eve.
The Wings gave up a two goal lead until Todd Bertuzzi was able to break a 3-3 tie with his second goal late in the third period. Darren Helm was also able to add an insurance tally less then a minute later.
Osgood also picked up his 401st win, putting him only two wins behind Oilers great Grant Fuhr (Osgood’s idol growing up) on the all time wins list.
“I was hoping I’d get to play one of these games in Alberta, not knowing if I’m going to play next year or not,’’ Osgood said before the game. “I wanted to at least have an opportunity to play where I grew up and watched these teams play for so many years. It’s special for me to play in Edmonton for sure.’’
Henrik Zetterberg who had a goal tonight and Lidstrom who had an assist both extended their point streaks to eight games while Bertuzzi who hasn’t had a goal the last 15 games was able to net two tonight. Veteran forward Kris Draper also scored his third goal in the last six games.
